This portal is independent and non-commercial. Donations directly fund measurement hardware and server costs.

What your donation buys

Our research goal is concrete and technical: build several identical, affordable measuring stations — low-frequency microphone + geophone + synchronized clock — place them in different countries and compare recordings of the same nights.

  • Low-noise measurement microphones and geophones (units capable below 20 Hz)
  • Recording interfaces and single-board computers for stations
  • NTP/GPS time synchronization so stations can be compared to the millisecond
  • Server and bandwidth costs for this portal and its open data

If synchronized stations record the same signal with measurable time offsets, the direction and distance of the source can be estimated by triangulation — the same principle seismologists use to locate earthquakes. All findings will be published openly on this site.
